Hi. I know that this is an old game meant for Windows 95/98, but anyway, I just recently installed Revenant onto my XP computer. Any time I start Revenant normally, it runs almost perfectly, just without sound effects. Any time I try to run it in compatability mode, Revenant.icd messes up and the game crashes essentially before it starts.

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody could help me figure out why Revenant's sound effects aren't working and help me fix it without a new computer.

My computer is a refurbished Dell Dimension 4550 with an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2 GHz processor, SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio, Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device, and NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 video card.

I have updated Revenant to version 1.22.

And before anyone asks, I have owned the disks of Revenant since days of Windows ME.

If there is anything else you wish to know about the issue, just ask and I will answer as soon as I can.

EDIT: The last few times I've tried to run it, it has run without music as well as sound effects. I am completely stumped. I swear it played music before I created this thread.

After like 2 hours messing with all kinds of settings I got the sounds working in game. I'm using WinXP Service Pack 3 with SoundMax HD audio.

Here's what I did:

Go Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Sound -> Turn your hardware sound acceleration to "Full acceleration"

I'm not sure if this is necessary but if the above does not work try this one too.
Still in dxdiag -> Network -> Under Registered DirectPlay applications you should see "Revenant" and a "DirectPlay Sound Settings" button (or something like that). Do the tests there and hopefully you wont encounter any problems.

Go in game and hope for the best.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have done the DxDiag thing and nothing seems wrong. Would it help if I uploaded the "DxDiag.txt"?

I just recently found a post about old RPGs which inspired me to dig this game (one of my all time fav's) out of storage and reinstall. The only problem is I'm having this same, or similar, audio problem. The game runs fine in compatibility mode for Win 95 but there are no sound effects, music yes but no sword swings, vocals, etc. which really kills the nostalgia I would get from playing this again.

Windows 7 and I am using Logitech G35 headphones if that has anything to do with it.

I've managed to run the game by setting Force Software Rendering AND putting my desktop into 16-bit color mode.

Cheers!
