So, I have rented Just Cause 2 from GameFly for the PS3, and had played approximately a third of the way into the game, after playing for quite some time. Liking it enough that I was soon going to buy the game, I purchased the DLC off of the PSN. As soon as I downloaded the DLC, though, the game gave me some issues that had not even threatened to happen. Suddenly the game was crashing, the graphics were glitching during loading screens, then freezing and giving me a message saying the game data was corrupted, and that I would need to delete it. I turned off the game, restarted, it worked. But, after this happened a few times, I came back to it yesterday, and it wouldn't start. So, regretting all my progress loss, I uninstalled everything related to Just Cause 2, and tried to reinstall.

The loading screen gets as far as 1%, and then crashes, saying the data is corrupt, and that I need to delete all game data to install. I had deleted save files, game data, even the two movies I had captured, there was nothing left related to JC2. But still it won't install. I tried it with and without the update, thinking to compensate for the DLC, but both led to the same result. Now, very much wanting to play, I'm at a loss. What can I do to install and play again?

Do you know anyone else with a PS3? If so, try installing the game to their machine and see what happens. If it works, it may be a fault with the PS3's hard drive and you would be best to contact Sony Playstation Support. If you get the same issue on another PS3, it may be the disc, in which case return it to the retailer you rented it from.

I purchased this used, and the disc is in great condition, not a scratch on it. The game played fine for about an hour, and before I could complete the first series of missions before the game allows you to "free roam" it went into a forever lasting loading screen. It just never stopped loading, for over half an hour. It was still displaying tips, too, it wasn't like it just froze up or anything.

So I turned it off for a few hours and went to try again, completed the first mission, and went to do some free-roaming, where it froze while driving down the road with an object tethered to my vehicle. It's been about 2 days since, and out of about 3 hours gameplay it's either done a "forever loading screen" or just crashed during gameplay, where the screen freezes and the last sound that was playing is all that you hear.

I really like the game, it's great. That's why I bought it, because I had tried it on a 360, and didn't notice any freezing or "forever loading screens". Is there something wrong with the disc, maybe? It's not my PS3, the only game that's given me this much trouble is Fallout New Vegas, which is a lot more "freeze prone" then this. Which is why I had to get rid of it. I really don't want to have to try and sell this now, too. I should also note that I had downloaded the free DLC, which may have given other players problems, apparently.

You'll have to go into safe mode and "restore file system" from the safe mode menu. Happened with me numerous times while trying to install and play Fallout: New Vegas, and that was how I fixed it. Here's a link with details on how to do it. Make sure you "restore file system" and nothing else. it will tell you your hard drive is corrupted, which may or may not actually be the case. It's just the default message for activating the file system restore.
