Why not?
It's self explanatory really.
I know this is a community of gamers and film buffs, but I figured to see if there were any other literary enthusiasts like myself.
I read books all the time, I read comics every once in a while, I rarely read short stories, and I only read Poetry as an assignment.

I actually just ordered Ambrose Bierce's 'The Devil Dictionary'. It's been on my wishlist for over a decade. Yes, I'm serious.
The last book I read was Marilyn Manson's autobiography entitled 'The Long Hard Road Out of Hell'. Good read and I could identify with many situations described from his youth.
The last poem I read was by myself; I've been working on it for quite a while. Eventually it will become one of my lyrics. Maybe one day I will share my art with you fine gentlemen. For now, its fuction is strictly therapeutic.

And I don't have gripes with Song Lyrics, I enjoy music, I just never enjoyed reading Poetry, Song Lyrics are sung and mostly contain music to help progress them, Poetry I just find bland and unappealing.
EDIT: When is that Kane & Lynch Comic coming out? Surely everyone here's going to read that, yeah?

I've already written sixteen pages on Word and its probably only five percent or less than everything i have to write, the problem now being that i'm not fully satisfied with a couple of character handling so now i have to 'rethink' before i can start writing again...
And i'm even if i was getting paid for this i would still be doing it in my current pace ...
Our friend Ward shoved up something in three months, whereas i care for my masterpiece
Did you read 'em?
I'm waiting for the sixth issue to come out so that i can get a bundle of all six together...
And that's IF i really give a damn ...
The artist had posted pages from the first few comics on his blog: it's missing the dialogs but judging from the pictures alone you really don't need a litterary man to compose the lines...

I haven't decided what to read through next once I've finished TAB, but here's what I got on my shelf, some leftover from Christmas that I haven't gotten to yet.
The Disciple by Stephen Coonts, supposedly some kind of Political/War Thriller involving Iran, the U.S. and Nuclear Missiles an' all that good stuff. Got it as a gift, never heard of it, but it itrigued me, but also it's 500 Page legth is why it wasn't a top priority read, I'll get to it eventually.
Kickass, the Graphic Novel. Of course it wasn't written as a Grpahic Novel, but as a 12-Issue (I think) Comic Series that was reprinted in a collection once completed. I asked for it purely because I was a fan of the movie so it should prove to be awesome.
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, thank Slash for that one.
The next two books in the Wheel of Time series, specifically The Great Hunt & The Dragon Reborn both by Robert Jordan.
My step-sister lent me the first Harry Potter book, The Philosopher's (A.K.A. Sorcerer's) Stone I figured it was high-time I finally read them and learned what the fuss has been about so I'll get to that sooner or later.
I got Michael Herr's Dispatches because I heard about it's influence on Apocalypse Now, Shakespear's King Lear just because I loved Ran so freaking much, the LOTR books because I never read them, and that's about it.
As far as things on my shelf I'm waiting for, that's not to mention things that haven't come out yet, don't own or aren't available at the library yet.

I got Dmitry Glukhovsky's Metro 2033 (English translation) this week and I'm about seventy pages in now. The translation is awful. I literally have to re-read certain sentences to understand what is being said.
Apart from that, I'm enjoying it quite a bit and having played through the game several times recently, it really makes me 'feel at home', if you catch my drift?

Come on Brothas! Don't you enjoy the written word?
I picked up the BioShock prequel novel-with the original title of BioShock: Rapture-by John Shirley, and I'm pretty amazed by it. I'm not sure what the standard of quality for videogame tie-in novels is, but Mr.Shirley has gotten the BioShock tone down pat. He found Andrew Ryan's voice particularly well.

The only Video Game Tie-In Novel I ever read was Dead Space Martyr, which I thought was great and got pretty disturbed by it at points. And that's no Dead Space Fandom either, I read it before I even touched one of the games.
The first half is a lot like a Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park) novel. A science fiction thriller with a lot of Collaborations between different types of Scientists, along with a whisper about the Military being "up to something shady" here and there. The second half is a lot more like a Psychological Horror story followed by a Grisly Third Act full of Terror.
So yeah, for a VG Book it satisfied the heck outta me. I'd call that the standard.
I implore any of you to check that one out if you can, even if you hate Dead Space.
What is the BioShock one about? What kind of book is it? I honestly don't know how you make a book about the building of rapture and be entertaining without splicers in it.

Have you ever read a Harry Turtledove novel? The structure is similar, with different view points showing the rise of Rapture and how basically Fontaine ****ed it all up
Actually, it turns out that Fontaine is not Fontaine, in a sense. This is the major change to Bioshock canon in the book.
The author managed to capture Ryan's motivation and descent into hypocrisy very well, especially after his control on Rapture's ultra-capitalistic is threatened by the coming of plasmids.
And there are Splicers, oh boy, are there splicers. Plus it makes Objectivism into the biggest joke ever

Not that she makes it hard to dislike her selfish ideals. I picked up Atlas Shrugged about two years ago, it was the worst thing I've ever read. The only good thing I can say about it was that it was padded to the point where I could beat someone to death with it. That and the opening scens with John Galt reminded me of Andrew Ryan
Didn't you say you were going to read it because of BioShock?

I don't think I could read a 1,000 Page Political Book simply because a game I love pokes fun at it. You guys are obviously the biggest BioShock fans out there.
Last thing I read was "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved" by Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. If you haven't head or of the Good Doctor, he's the creator of Gonzo Journalism, or at least accredited as. Gonzo Journalism is essentially when the Journalist retells the story as he/she experienced, making himself/herself a character in a real-life story.
TKDIDAD is a story about Thompson revisiting his home town to cover the Derby in 1973. The story isn't so much about the Race itself but the depraved acts that the people who go to it engage in.
If you're into whacky quasi-political stories filled with drug-addled maniacs this or most anything else of Thompson's work is a good place to look.
