so i've poked through some of the threads, and cant really find my issue. i downloaded Thief deadly shadows on steam, and it worked for an hour and a half. i got through the first main mission after the tutorial. now, when i start it up, i can get to the menu with no problems, load a save, but from there, it almost immediately crashes and i get a meesage that T3.exe stopped working. sometimes, i'll be in the actual game and can move for a couple seconds, then it crashes, but usually it just crashes as soon as the loading is done.

i tried compatability mode, setting the game to run on one processor (i have a dual core) and i dont get any messages about data execution prevent.

any clues? i really enjoyed the first mission, i'd like to get my money's worth here.

Have you looked at the...Thief and Vista fixes (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=76504)...thread?

...and have you tried this?...

1 - Uninstall TDS...
2 - Restart...
3 - Use preferred registry cleaner...
4 - Restart...
5 - Reinstall TDS

If you're still having trouble, please list your system specs, including operating system, CPU type, video card and its driver version, and audio card.

I tried some of the things in that thread and it didn't resolve anything. That's the thread that lead me here actually. I'll uninstall and see what happens. Its a steam game so it'll be a while til I can get back to you

I take it that you have cleaned your registry and your 260 GTX driver is up to date?...If it's not, please do so.

I would then use "Windows update" to update Vista to SP3, along with any other appropriate updates.

I would try TDS now and see if it stops crashing...

Also, if you have a widescreen display, apply this...Widescreen patch (http://mugon.org/widescreen/thief.html)...It will give you widescreen resolutions, and has been known to fix certain crashes as well.

If that doesn't work, you can also try replacing the T3Main.exe file with the T3MainReleaseVersion.exe, that is found in the level editor package for T3ed...you can download it...here (http://www.ttlg.com/wiki/Main_Page).

Let me know...

Sorry, I was thinking of XP when I said SP3...:o

I hope the T3MainReleaseVersion.exe works.

Damn...all I can say is to either re-install Vista, or just buy the hard copy...

I recommend getting...THIEF - THE COMPLETE COLLECTION (http://www.amazon.com/THIEF-COMPLETE-COLLECTION-Pc/dp/B002LVUKIS)...it's only 9.95 and contains all three games...and it's not steam.

Sorry things couldn't be easier...but I've noticed that there's been users that have reported unusual problems with the Steam version of TDS.

i just dont understand why it worked for an hour and a half and just quit? although that boxset looks good, even though i dont know if the hard copy will work any better.

My instincts tell me that it's your system...If it were me, I'd go through the trouble of re-installing Vista (or upgrade to 7).

No problem...always happy to help.
