3D Realms boss George Broussard tweeted, "Layoffs at Io Interactive (Kane&Lynch/Hitman). As many as 35, and a project cancelled. Tis' the season."

If it's true it's really a bad news .
Is it the reason why no more new K&L2 update and DLCs ?

I think we had enough worthless DLC alright. An update, however, is still welcome...
And a cancelled project sounds bad... I hope Hitman fans get a 5th fix and I would love to see a third and final instalment in the K&L series.

That sounds really bad but Dog Days was selling for $20 across the globe, it's not much of a surprise.
The question is, what is that cancelled project? Hopefully not a master piece like Dead Men.

Well that's terrible. I doubt the cancelled project is Hitman though. That's one of their better selling series. I think I remember a while ago that IO mentioned they were working on a non-Hitman and non-Kane and Lynch game, so maybe that's what got cancelled.

...you mean like a master piece? Perhaps it was Mini Ninjas 2 instead.

"Gentlemen...it's been an honor playing with you"
Too early? But this still sucks though
EDIT: How the hell would the 3D Realms boss know about IO?

BUT WE NEED BRAND NEW IP! All these sequels can go to hell. Except for Hitman, of course...we need that one :D

Some thirty staff have been made redundant at Danish game studio IO Interactive, it is believed, with rumours that the action was triggered by the cancellation of a game deal with Microsoft.
The studio, known for its previous work on the Hitman series and Kane & Lynch, will not disclose how many staff are affected by the measures.
In a prepared statement, IO Interactive general manager Niels Jørgensen told Develop: “I can confirm that we have made some internal changes at IO Interactive which has regrettably resulted in the loss of some jobs.”
He added: “This is a natural part of any studio's existence when you ramp-up and ramp-down on projects to ensure you have the right level of resource and expertise within the studio. We genuinely wish those who have been affected by this, the best of luck for the future.”
I do not believe this will have any effect on any planned patches. This is just a normal cycle when developers are between projects.
