This time, unlike those earlier posters, there is actual confirmation that Hitman 5 is coming up.

So, all that Bateson has seen is some artwork it seems, so I guess that is telling of how far along it is, but still, this is good news.

My concern with the series is that the storylines are getting worse and worse. It's been pretty much downhill since Hitman: Contracts... and of the 4 games, I think Hitman: Blood Money probably had the worst story of all. I think the problem is that the Hitman developers really just wanted to flex the new engine and see what they could do. Half the Blood Money levels are all over the place. A ship, a suburb... a skyscraper (Why does IOInteractive have a hard-on for skycrapers?)... a casino... you get the idea. There's no coherent storyline, like there was with Hitman 2. They hyped this Franchise assassin up so much, and then when you finally fight him on the rooftop... he goes down so quickly, and you're left thinking "That's it?"

I consider Hitman: Blood Money more of a technical achievement than anything. They revamped the engine, they established new "rules" like being penalized for leaving your suit/equipment at the scene. It's good in that regard, but I could have passed on the story. It was too disconnected, and frankly, didn't have the dark atmosphere of Hitman: Contracts that I enjoy.

Hitman needs more morally ambiguous missions too. There needs to be this distinction that Hitman isn't the white knight. He's a hitman. He'd ******* kill your grandma if someone payed enough for it. The player needs to be faced with more moral decisions... For example: The Meat King's Party in Hitman Contracts. I remember playing that, looking through the keyhole, and watching the Meat King's brother hacking up meat parts. He's obviously not the target, but do you let this guy live?

It's the little things like that that are gonna make Hitman 5 a classic. Let's hope they don't screw it up.... and if there isn't a cross-over mission with Kane & Lynch then YOU'RE DEAD TO ME IOINTERACTIVE. YOU HEAR ME?? YOU'RE DEAD TO ME.

The thing about Hitman, though, is that it honestly doesn't need a story. As much as I like my games to have a good story, Hitman games almost solely rely on level design and variety. If they have to sacrifice having a coherent story for having great levels, so be it. I will agree, though, that Silent Assassin 2 had the best story, and I thought it also had some of the best levels too. So while it is possible to have the best of both worlds, I wouldn't care if the next one is essentially a map pack with no story.

Also, as a side note, I've found this ripoff of the Hitman games called Death To Spies. There are several in the series, all on the PC. I played a bit of the demo and it seemed pretty good. They are all WW2 games so far though, with one taking place in the 60s coming out next year, I believe.

Of course they're working on Hitman 5.... but IOInteractive is going to deny it all up and down until the last minute.

IOInteractive did the same thing with Kane & Lynch 2.... they denied it even existed until the last minute.

For whatever reason, that's how they do things.

I was really astonished when Acid kept telling you and me that Dog Days wasn't officially announced yet and that we shouldn't take all our wishlist-discussions too far back in October/September/August/July 2009 ...
(for the unitiated , i brought the news of trademark for Dog Days to this forum back in mid July 2009 , the game's 'official announcement' was only in mid November , so for four months we were basically just 'crazy people' as we kept on actively talking about a game that supposedly doesn't exist) ...

It's even worst for Hitman V , because people have already been making wishlists for this unannounced game since June 2006 ! ...

I mean it's not like Freedom Fighters II where its future is still clouded in doubts , it's Hitman damn it ! how could they not be making it ? ...

And since when does David Bateson spout out lies on the internet ? the guy barely speaks in the first place ! ...

PS: that said , personnally i would rather see a Kane & Lynch III than another Hitman ...
Blood Money ended superbely for the franchise , if Hitman V doesn't match that level of masterpiece ... well ... Grievous-style-rant-storm detected ...

I'm starting to think this game is more of a tech demo to their marvelous (truly) Glacier 2 engine than a sequel to Hitman ...

Also, while we're here, anyone up for some civil discussion of Absolution? The offical forum seems to be filled with people who think the change of some mechanics is the death blow to the series.
I'm cautious of the game. I used to be cautiously optimistic, but now I'm just cautious. Basically, Hitman isn't a lost cause, but I need to see some good, extended gameplay to before I'm willing to utterly commit to the game. The other thought I have is that the game isn't going to be the usual Hitman game, but very well may end up being a great game in it's own right.

Also, I'm not upset about the lack of Jesper Kyd or David Bateson, since I always felt story and dialogue were such a minimal part of the Hitman games, but the business around 47 being recast seems very shady to me.
