So yeah,it takesplace in the near future, and I just started dating this girl. One night,I'm walking her home, and some old friends who are now enemies walk out of an alley. One of them shouts,:"Yo,whats up,man!"I stare at him for a second and realize that they have weapons(such as pipes, baseball bats, usual street gang weapons). The guy who appears to be a leader of this gang.He says he wants my girlfriend, and of course,I refuse. Then, they start to try to beat me up,but I kick their asses,Batman style. They run off,and I get my first kiss.:D

Or, perhaps it's just a dream :p Dreams can be as random as random gets. Or, as Freud said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Dream psychology is one thing that is *never* for certain. Sometimes I try to analyze my own dreams and I just end up confusing myself.

Anything can happen in a dream for a variety of reasons. While there are studies that would attempt to prove that certain elements of dreaming are based on real-life experience, I personally do not believe this. Dreams just happen, and most of the time we can't even remember them. It probably is a loosely conjoined experience of our imagination vs. reality. The parts that are from reality are pretty tough to figure out though.

...unless of course people you know are in the dream.

In mwkcope's case, he dreams about Batman all the time I'm sure. It could be that he just wanted Batman to 'get lucky' or what-have-you, instead of being a personal vendetta; he never mentioned anything about the girl and her connection to either the dreamer, or the actions in the dream.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Oddly, I had a rather bizzare dream recently where I was totally stuck inside a game! I hadn't played any Tomb Raider levels for quite some time but suddenly I slid down this sand dune thingy and I was surrounded by miles of desert and afront me was a shed-like building. Inside the shed was my brother. He was laying down on some craft bench and I couldn't get to him.

The next thing I knew, there was a herd of wild boars heading for me and I tried to open the shed door but it was locked. I was trying to jump up on the shed roof and then a boar ripped into my side with it's teeth and I woke up with pain in my side

It's funny how....when you are in pain during REM sleep, the pain seems to manifest itself within your dream and you wake up and can then hpefully deal with said pain!

Same when you have drunk too much tea or coffee before bed time. You seem to dream of toilets or at least toilets will suddenly become a major factor within that dream!

Just one more thing - allegedly, when you dream of tripping or falling from a great height and suddenly awaken it is supposedly your heart that temporarily stops and needs to kick in again

Well, you obviously don't FEEL the dream really, it's all in your mind. If you think you are feeling something in your dreams it is more than likely your mind telling you that something like what happened would hurt and it may cause your body to jolt slightly but I'm sure you aren't really feeling whatever happens in your dreams. If you are for real, you probably should go see a therapist or something, you could become a hazard to other humans if you are actually doing things in your sleep. Do you sleepwalk? Could be a sign of it is all I'm saying.

I doubt I sleepwalk, since I always wake up in the same position I fall asleep. But yeah, whenever the devil is in my dreams, I remember everything in that dream. I remember the feeling as he grew nearer to me. It's frightening. It's like fear on steroids.

Ugh, I get these a lot and they are quite annoying. The most annoying part is not being able to find a toilet in my dream. And once I do find a toilet and relieve myself, I never feel relieved, which of course is logical because I still need to actually pee.

What I do enjoy though are lucid dreams. I used to train myself to trigger a lucid dream and it's pretty easy to do, at least it was for me. Once entering a lucid dream, you can have lots of fun :D

I like to go flying, or jumping off of high places, knowing that I can't get hurt.

Just one more thing - allegedly, when you dream of tripping or falling from a great height and suddenly awaken it is supposedly your heart that temporarily stops and needs to kick in again

Please don't scare people by posting these kinds of hear-say rumors / myths.

What you are describing is a hypnic jerk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnic_jerk) and it is quite common and harmless. Many people have them and unless they are having a serious heart condition, they should not be worried about having these dreams.

I used to have them when I was a kid from time to time and if I was told that it's my heart stopping, I'd be pretty scared about it, so please be more careful :)

And I doubt that if you're a sleepwalker, you'd know it about yourself ;)

What exactly do you mean by that you feel your dreams?

If you wake up with a pain somewhere that you've dreamt about, it could simply be that you were getting the pain during the night (could be just harmless, like bowel pains after eating something wrong or stuck gas) and that during your sleep you started to dream about the pain.

So if you wake up and feeling the pain of your dream, just turn it around and think about that you may have just dreamt about the real pain you already had :)

Can't really say I've had any awesome dreams.
Well, except for that kind, and only the couple of times I happened to wake up during......:p

But I've had a few strange dreams. One particular one I had about 30 years ago and I still remember it. There were two hills in the distance with a valley between them. On each hill was an army on horseback. They started charging down into the valley to fight. The strange part was that both armies were gorillas. Not a standard gorilla, but a human looking gorilla. Or maybe a gorilla looking human. There was more after that but it was very strange and jumbled so I don't really remember it. Mostly some impressions of me hiding from other monkeys, not gorillas. But I couldn't hide from them, they were everywhere, and weren't trying to catch me or anything. I just wanted to avoid them.

And no, I hadn't watched Planet of the Apes yet at that time in my life.

It's a little known fact that Planet of the Apes and all related material are actually mental projections of the great Ape from the future, where these events happen. Only certain people are aware of the projections, so you obviously were one of the lucky ones :p

Aaaand, on a more serious note: I have lucid dreams now and then. I haven't in a while, but I remember them back to when I was 8, or 9, I think. I've never tried to train myself to trigger them, and don't know how that's done. Sounds intriguing. But, anyway, the first time I happened to realize I was dreaming was seeing my mom from the back at the bar in our then basement. I had actually gone to sleep on the sofa that was the same sofa I was on in the dream facing the bar. Ominous music was playing while I called out "Mom!" a few times. Still seeing her from the back at the bar facing the TV, I realized that if she actually did turn around, or I went over to her, that this would be horror-movie-bad, and realized, wait, I am in a nightmare! I then forced myself to wake up. It took a bit of effort to rip out of that dream. I usually am able to pull myself out of a nightmare on the rare occasion they ever start, by the same "Wait a minute!" realization that it's a dream. Sometimes I wake form it only partially in sleep paralysis and those are the worst, as I watch and hear the dream still playing out, but see it partially over the room and ceiling around, trying and trying to move my head and body, to make a sound. After a lot of will, finally I break free of that. Like I said, that only happens now and then, like once every few/several years, lol, so thank goodness. But, like I said, the first realizations of being in the dream came from this, so in that respect it's a good experience. I like the lucid dreams that are more pleasant, when I realize I am dreaming and it's not a bad dream, and can control it, like Dribber stated. I've flown around a few times, and that's the absolute best! Also, running super fast, or willing the entire scene to change, etc. These are awesome experiences, but they happen infrequently and are usually over before too much fun can be had, lol. It's better than the other version, where you run and run and are in like super slow motion. I've even had a martial arts fight once with some bad dudes and it played out for me in super slow mo while they avoided everything and just stared at my ineptness, lol.

Hm, one other weird thing I get from time to time is seeing images on walls, etc., after I wake up. Not images, but writing, like mathematical equations, or foreign languages, in black ink scribbling itself on the wall/ceiling. I am not a mathematician, or studier of old texts, so this isn't coming from my own inherent pastimes... I don't know what it is, exactly, but it's interesting. It fades after a minute, or two, but I am fully aware while watching it, just kinda' taking it in...

As for pain in dreams, like when stabbed, or falling, etc: sometimes I have it and sometimes I don't. Though, even if ever painful, it's never real, to the point that if I got shot in a dream, I don't feel blood pumping out of the wound, nausea, the internal turmoil I am sure I would if it actually happened. It's usually just a burning, or sharp sensation. So, yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. I believe that's normal.

Conclusion: dreams are an awesome, fun experience, on the whole.

Interesting, I've never tried that in a lucid dream. What do you do to try to change the scene? And what do you change it to?

Well, it's been a wile, but I believe that in one instance I was somewhere, a house or building I know, and I decided to leave and go to another spot, which I already had preplanned was going to be somewhere else in my head. Another example is being in a place I know, with certain people there, and thinking to myself that if I pick up this book and read it, those people will go away and the people who should be there (let's say this is a dream that's happened before, but it's not playing the same way), will be there when I look up again. So, it's more of that type of change. Not to say I just morphed the settings like in a CGI film. I think in another dream I was intentionally viewing it as a film, so I'd cut from one "scene" to another by shutting and opening my eyes, rather like what an edit is reflective of in a film. That was a pretty amazing experience.

Speaking of the first couple of examples: I like reoccurring dreams. They sometimes play out exactly the same way, and are familiar in that sense, and sometimes things change. This has happened in dreams where I am aware of the dream and in dreams when I am not. I used to have the same dreams repeating for a couple of years, now and then. I don't think I've had a repeat one in a while, though.

Yeah your mind can play strange tricks on you sometimes.

I completely understand your difficulty of expressing the emotions you experienced in a dream.

Whenever you tell a dream to someone else, you're always picturing it much more fascinating in your own head because as you are telling what happened in the dream, you are partly reliving the emotions again. But for the other person it's like listening to a really bad movie script :D

I've had my share of odd dreams. but I still remember an especially scary one I used to have repeatedly a few years back. I was in a mansion, and my family was there, and we were going from one side to the other. I decided to take a shortcut, opened a door, and found a room with a mirror on the wall. I looked into the mirror but didn't see my reflection (it's a lot scarier than it might sound :O). Then I ran away as fast as I could, but all I remember after that was some dried peas on a windowsill :D.

I've had my share of mirror dreams. Part of other dreams where I wind up looking into a bathroom mirror, breaking away from whatever conversation I was having, or something like that, or else, it's just a mirror dream. Yeah, it's not always about to go all horror on me, but usually, it's something bad. Either my face is off (like my eyes were completely black and my skin sickly, or white, in one, lol), or else something about the tone changes. With the eyes black one, my immediate thought was, I bet when I smile, it's not going to be pretty.:p Well, it wasn't, black, snarling teeth. Or, another time, I was missing teeth, face otherwise was ok, but I wasn't too concerned, lol. One time, I wasn't even me, but a black-haired dead-looking girl, a' la Japanese horror, or The Ring in America... For some reason, I just had to keep looking, like that was the norm, or something. Well, it was nasty, lol

Other times, the mirror has just shown me as I am, so nothing special there. Usually, if anything is going to get ugly and scary in my dreams, I first get the aforementioned ominous scary movie music playing, like a low piano cord, rumbling bass... That can come out of nowhere in my dreams, too. I can be having a perfectly normal dream, or even one of those repeats I've had for ages, and then bam! It changes to Resident Evil-type insanity.

This thread is interesting. My dreams have been totally lucid (literally thinking "this is a dream") very few times, but in most of the common dreams I have "powers". Flight and telekinesis are pretty common for me, and they're really fun :nut:

Edit: Talking about altering the whole environment, I've done that too, thinking about teleporting (yes, I like superpowers), focusing and projecting the surroundings. It all depends on your will and how strongly you believe it will work

I recall one of my very first dreams I ever remember happening was when I was a very younge child, swimming underwater. I was underwater near a Just Cause 2ish island, and I was observing the beauty of the area. crystal clear water, colorful coral, and for some reason there was a chool bus underwater with me, it was just floating there open and slightly wrecked. Then I realised that I could breath underwater. This was one of the coolest feelings ever. On the note of pain, I couldn't really say I've had any, but my good friend has, he has been both, stabbed in the gut with a sword, and been violated by a hunter, from the halo game series.

I regularly lucid dream. I feel pain, warmth and even textures which I find quite cool. I also dream in colour, which throws one theory I read to the dogs. This person (can't remember who or what they were specifically) was trying to say that everyone dreams only in black and white but I know for a fact I don't as I remember all my dreams in colour.

I think the best lucid dream I ever had was being in a wood on a sunny day. I knew somehow it was a dream, but everything felt so real. I could feel the warmth of the sun, the cool breeze and even smell the pine and the musty woodland smell. I reached out to feel a pine branch to make sure if it was a dream or not and the needles hurt. It was one of the few where I realised I was dreaming that I didn't wake up from straight away. :)

I've had water breathing dreams like that too, Cheesepuff. Usually I'm panicking at first, I'm holding my breathe to the point where it hurts because I'm scared I'll drown and I can't get above the water. Then, when I finally give up and let go, I find I can breathe in the water. It is cool, but would be cooler if it weren't started with the terrifying bit lol.:D

I nearly drowned for real once in the river in the town where I grew up - it felt like my lungs were imploding but I couldn't get out because the current kept pulling me back down. For some reason (maybe adrenaline?) I stopped panicking and there was a moment where everything seemed calm, in slow motion and my mind got clearer. I looked around and could see the sunlight above really bright and where it was filtering through the water softly. I could even see some fish further away. :) I think that weird moment probably saved my life because I crawled along the bottom away from the current holding the stones to freedom. Tragically, a boy in my class at school a few years later wasn't so lucky - he was swimming in a known danger spot where the currents pulled people under ledges that were in the deep water and that's what happened to him. :(

I think my near drowning experience led to me having the dreams I mentioned above, because I never really dreamt about drowning before then. I also had dreams where I saved the other boy for a while after he died.

I think it's possible that as well as other things, dreams might possibly also be a way of the brain trying to cope or make sense out of something that's happened such as something traumatic and until you can find closure or a way to deal with the grief, anger or shock or whatever feeling it was, then it will keep bringing up similar or even the same dream? It would explain why people who have suffered severe trauma have constant nightmares.

I guess the problem is though that dreams can be so completely vague in their symbolism that it's not always easy to find out what they mean or if they mean anything at all. LOL, with some dreams it's just impossible. :D When I was quite young I used to have a terrifying recurring dream. It eventually stopped happening, but I still don't know what caused that one.

And, come to think of it, lately, either I don't remember my dreams, or my dreams have been very normal, and it's really rare when I have an odd dream. My most recent dream was a little odd, though. I was in an African village, walking around, and I saw a little boy sliding down a smooth stone on his belly, while his mother kept looking back and forth from me, to him. I hate wet dreams. They are always so nerve wrecking, usually I am being chased by a pack of wolves and I try to run away from them but my feet feel like they are stuck to the ground. Then when the wolves almost caught up with me, I wake up in cold sweat.

The next morning I then always have to wash my pillow case because there is a big sweat stain on it. Yeah, I could definitely do without wet dreams.

Agreed. I also find it difficult to go back to sleep afterwards.
