No spamming. Spamming is characterized by the initiation of threads or posts that contribute nothing to a forum, be it off topic or on topic. Examples include: empty bodies, bodies with few words that have no relation to the current thread or discussion and those posts that state they are Spam, either to annoy or increase a member's post count.

Recently, (as many of you may have noticed) there has been an increase in Spam-related instances around the LOK forums. (Both in the form of threads and polls). I am not here to single anyone out for this recent outbreak, but I am here to call awareness to the problem at hand. (And I feel many of us are guilty of - including myself - at one point or another).

I've been a member of these forums since April, 2002. I joined this forum after purchasing and playing BO2 and have (for the most part) enjoyed my time around here. I have made many friends, some of whom I talk to daily through AIM and email.

There has been more spam around here within the last month than there has been since I joined. We all agreed to the same terms of use, and became members of this forum. Why is it that the spam rule is being totally disregarded?

I am curious as to a couple of things:

1. Is the recent spam outbreak due to people wanting to increase their post counts non-constructively?

2. Is it a blatent disregard for rules set forth by forum mods and administrators?

3. Is it a contest to see who can be the most immature?

I am seriously looking for enligthenment on this issue.

Now I know I am not a forum mod, or an administrator, and a lot of you have questioned why I'm on such an anti-spam kick lately.

The fact of the matter is, I come here to socialize and to enjoy myself, and frankly looking around here lately, I am being annoyed more than I am having fun. As are a few other members. I've even talked to regular members who want nothing more to do with this place because of recent events.

We're all entitled to have fun here, why go out of your way to ruin it for other people?

I am well aware that a few people may be ticked off when I point out that they are spamming and/or insulting someone. I am not here to defend myself about it either. I'm a very opinionated person in real life, and this place is no exception (as many of you know). I do have a right to enjoy myself around here though, and if I have to point it out to you why I am not, then so be it. I've followed the rules as closely as I can, while enjoying myself. It really isn't that hard of an accomplishment. I don't want to play the bad guy, and go out of my way to piss many of you off.

But I do have the chutzpah to speak my mind, the question is, do you have the same to listen?

Why have we reduced ourselves to this level?

Polls were once taken away for over-usage (and pointlessness). Not just here, community wide. Is that what goal we're aming for again?

I am all for having fun now and again, even if/when topics stray away from their original point, but to really have no point to begin with is a stretch.

And it doesn't stop there, ithe spam going as far as the pollution of other people's threads (be they fun like my website update threads) or serious.

Not to mention the threads I purposefully skip over because of the reputation the author has developed. :rolleyes: And I am sure some of you do the same with mine.

<generalized statement>

You want your polls voted in? Give them time. You want to be recognized as something besides a pest? Stop coming off as one. You want to enjoy yourself and be heard? Then kindly show the rest of the community the same respect.

</generalized statement>

As the terms of use state, if you don't like the the rules, don't post here. If you can't follow them, then please stop bringing other members down because of it.

Think before you post and avoid the spam-related crap that's been plaguing our stomping grounds. Members (new and old) shouldn't have to be subjected to it and those who are initiating it don't need to continue it.

Is "BAH!!!" a part of your signature, Rio?

I agree. This is why I deleted the spam I contributed (I still don't know for sure if I got all of it) and am resolving to lay off the polls for a while. It was a good idea to bring this subject up. Maybe now it'll die down some.:)

The BAH!!! is part of who I am in this forum. It's been with me since I signed on at the old Eidos forums a year and a half ago, and it's just habitual now that I put it up.

I'm considering changing it to BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! though, considering the current condition of some of the membership around here...

Damn, I'm gone a few weeks and the entire forum is in chaos!

Yikes!

Brownie Points for Umah, for bringin' up the issue! Spam is bad. No matter how it's canned. :)

(Guess no one missed me, huh?)

So they missed me after all, eh?

I have a story that I've been writing in Math class for the past 3 weeks or so. (this is what happens when polygons eat away at your brain tissue!)

I don't know if I'll be submitting it in the FanFiction contest, as it isn't done yet, but it's a possibility. It will eventually end up on FF.net, since I happen to have the beginnings of a following there in the name of Parody. And it involves some of you guys too. PowerReaver, Umah, KoolKat, and Jeffers, to name a few. It's a humor/parody piece. Don't have a title for it yet, but I'm thinking "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Pillars..."

Note it has nothing at all to do with that other play "...Forum" although that would be a great title for a goof on all of us.

Hey, that's a good idea... :D

PS: What is Eidos' parent company, if any? I need to know their stock thingy (symbol? I stink at numbers) and chart it for 10 days to make a graph in my Excel class. Number Crunching! WOOH!

Well....I guess you won't be entering the fic since the contest is over. :D Next time, right? I'd still like to see the fic when it's finished.
