Can't start a local co-op game

Has anyone else encountered this? I start up the game with two players signed into the Xbox under separate profiles. I choose co-op at the main menu, it "logs in" both of us even though we're already signed into Live, and then we get to the player selection screen. We each choose a character, hit A, and it just makes a clicking sound, but nothing happens. It says that B should make you go back, but it does nothing. It's really frustrating. I was able to play single player without a hitch, but I can't seem to get into the co-op mode at all. I even tried deleting the game and re-downloading it, but that didn't fix it.

Any ideas?

Okay, I figured it out. I had a Rock Band drum kit connected to my 360. Even though there was no gamertag logged onto it, I guess having a third controller connected to the 360 was confusing the game. Hopefully this will help anyone else who might encounter a similar problem.
