Second Controller Wont Connect..ideas?

I cannot get the second controller to connect..any ideas?..Its brand new and i have others but its a no go....I can sign in to LIVE and go to the screen where it says connect second controller but it never connects. What am i missing?

Are you hitting the sync button on the xbox and then on your new controller? Remember, they have to be linked together before they'll work.
