Anime
There are actually very good animes out there. None of that Inuyasha-Dragonball-Z-Sailor-Moon crap, actually good shows. You just have to know where to look. For most of these, I'm just going to post a quick video clip- for some, I'll talk for a bit about them. All of these have English dubs.

Hellsing
If you hate Twilight vampires, this is the series for you. Alucard, a vampire bound in service to the Anglican church, and Seras Victoria, a policewoman turned newly formed vampire, fight various other monsters. Along the way, they come into conflict many times with the Irish Catholic church and Father Anderson, a rather nice man who is also a bat**** crazy lover of knives.
English dub was passable.

Death Note
Some of you might know about this one. Light Yagami finds a notebook (dropped by a shinigami out of boredom) that claims that anyone's name written in it will die. When he tries it out, he finds that it works, and he quickly descends into a sociopath who's goal is to kill all the criminals and bad people in the world, then rule over the world as a new God. What follows is an interesting cat-and-mouse game between Light and a respected detective known only as L.
This series was fantastic, but kind of got worse after the first 20 episodes. I found Misa supremely annoying, so that's when it started to go downhill for me.
English dub was good.

Fullmetal Alchemist/ Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
This is the most mainstream of the anime here, shown on Adult Swim a lot. There's not much of a difference between the two early on, but Brotherhood follows the manga much more closely while the original goes off in its own direction. And man, are both awesome.
They're also some of the few anime to have pretty much all of the female characters be competent, strong, and sensibly dressed. Just look at Riza and Winry-

English dub for both was excellent- the same voice actors were used. Out of all the anime here, these two are probably my favorites.

This series was WEIRD. I can't really tell you what it's about...
English dub was good.

Cowboy Bebop
This one's about a trio (well, there's four if you count Ed) of bounty hunters named Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, and Faye Valentine. It was too short-lived for such a good series...
English dub was good.

Honorable mentions: Elfen Lied, D Gray-Man
So, yeah. Try watching one of these.
JRPGs
Okay, I'll make this one short since I very much doubt any of you will ever buy these games ever. This just exists to show you that there are good JRPGs out there behind all the Final Fantasy whatever.
These games are all for the PS2.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Shadow Hearts: From The New World
With an odd battle system that relies on perfect timing and weird characters, it's a shame that this series is so obscure. Both plots are well-done, although Covenant's was a little better and a lot darker than the more light-hearted From The New World. Both also feature insane versions of history.
Hell, in what other game can you play as Anastasia Romanov fighting bad guys or team up with a giant talking drunken cat who works under Al Capone?

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, Persona 4
These are touted as some of the best JRPGs out there, and for very good reason. I highly suggest checking them out. Really, if you're looking for a good JRPG then you can't get much better than the Shin Megami Tensei series.
