I got to like the xbox controller playing T3 on xbox. I got another xbox controller (USB) and set about trying to use it with T2 on PC. With the help of the Pinnacle Game Profiler (PGP - available on line) it went quite well. Has lots of powerful options and a nice GUI. It worked great, got everything just like I wanted and dove back in the game .... then it messed up.

The symptoms were
the game stopped hearing the controller via the PGP
normal keyboard interface workes fine, just as always
commands from the controller do affect mouse curser, enter, clicks, on the desktop or notepad.

Many thanks to theBlackman for lots of things to try in the "stickies". I learned a bit more about W7, but the problem persisted.

AND THEN, THE SOULTION:
The the game was being run at admin level (not sure how it got that way). Unless the PGP is also at admin, it can not touch the game process to pass on the commands. So I launch them both as admin and wander off to enjoy stealing stuff and saving the world.

ps. the box to "run as admin" is un-checked in the shortcut used to launch the game, but it still takes on admin status. Is there and *.ini, or *cfg somewhere to run at user level?

Blackman: feel free to refine this and meld into your write ups is you wish.
