Anyone else on PS3 see what just came out after the last update..."Playstation Plus"
...apparently for $50/year you get discount games and 60min demos.......does this seem like a good deal?

I was happy to see the update come so soon. I've been waiting for it since I first heard news of it.

Same price as Xbox Live Gold, but more perks and you don't NEED it to play online or have the other features that should be standard with Xbox Live. I say it's a good deal, especially since it will probably help provide better service. Better multiplayer servers, faster downloads, etc..

I'm not personally interested in it at this point, theres nothing I feel I need to have that constitutes getting it, but if something becomes available in the future that I just absolutely cant go without like say a really cool down-loadable car pack for Gran Turismo 5 once its out, that I cant get anywhere else, then I'll probably be more interested. Fifty bucks a year isn't that much money so I'm sure a lot of people will probably go for it. As far as rather this will provide better multiplayer servers, or faster downloads, I wouldn't hold my breath, but that would be great if it did.

Well, my hope is that the money will go towards supporting the network, not just whatever Sony wants to do with it. It would be a little silly for them not to since they provide the standard service for free, with free multiplayer and whatnot, and having at least some of the PSN+ profits go towards making it better would be a good investment on their part. At least to me.

At least that's what I'd do...

I agree with you 100%, its just Sony has a tendency to be, well Sony. Don't get me wrong, I love Sony sense PS One, but they don't make the smartest business decisions sometimes, especially this generation. They do need to invest in a more robust network if they ever hope to compete with Live. So hey, fingers crossed for both of us. :)

Hm. I'm going to give it a shot. Then I won't have to worry about it for 15 months...

I went ahead and signed up. I've always touted the free online play as a benefit for PS owners and that still holds true as this is optional for discounts and free stuff. I'm already enjoying my free version of Wipeout HD, and I stupidly paid $2 for a warhawk add-on the day before or I coulda got that for free too.

I am going to keep track of actual and perceived value throughout the year so it'll be interesting to see how it all adds up over time. I'm going to keep on ongoing tally here: http://mygamepages.com/index.php?topic=642.0

Only time will tell, but I too hope that they use the funds to help support the network in general for things that matter (ie. not Home) lol. Faster dl speeds would be much appreciated.
