I do not have any links.
But you can trust me that it's awesome.

xsammit, that's really nice! What did you use to make the backing track? You should find a vocalist to write lyrics for it. I don't have any links to my own music (it's 1:30 a.m. and I don't feel like digging them up right now), but I'm going to Berklee College of Music for engineering and production. The artist I'm working with has a pretty similar style to your song :)

Hi There
Actually I did the music myself on the keyboard and just burnt it off on a CD and played to it.I have Lyrics for it.It called I'm alive again.......but finding a singer who could do the song justice proved much harder than I would have preferred. But such is life.So As an instrumental, also considering the style of the tune It at least felt OK to dedicate it to SRV.Who I credit with teaching me to play.I watched the El Mocambo alot lol.
Looking forward to hearing your music as well as other.Lets Show EM were more than just gamers.Though of course we do love the stuff.

Great thread ..Seems we are coming out of the wood work.My Bother is a drummer, has a Drum kit built just for himbased on the band Rush,in Neil Peart Blue. But sadly after having to move there is no longer any room for him to play them...So now they are up for sale.As a guitar player,of sorts it small enough that I can still pick it up.Drummers have it the worst sometimes.

This is a mash-up of the main theme from the 2007 film "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" (composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis) and the music from the trailer for DX:HR.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENuvvXCgTKk
These two songs have been intermingling in my brain for a few days, so I tried lining them up with each other. It's far from a perfect match-up, but there are some seriously chilling similarities between the two compositions.

Cockos REAPER!
I don't have the money for Pro Tools, and the only thing that REAPER lacks compared to other DAW's besides Pro Tools is bundled plugins and integrated audio/sample editing. REAPER has tons of features, and it's extremely cheap. The trial period never actually runs out, but I think you are still technically breaking your policy to use it once you're past 30 days.
I had the chance to use Pro Tools at school for my music technology course, and, though a little fiddly, it does pretty much swamp everything else out there however.

Lol Cockos. That name always cracks my inner child up. Anyway though, I've heard great things about Reaper. I do like Pro Tools' workflow alot, but I HATE that you need an audio interface hooked up to even open the freaking program. Not to mention that audio interface HAS to be one of Digidesign's. So they lock you into their ecosystem. But Reaper is supposedly a very nice program, I'm looking forward to trying it someday!

Damn, I haven't been on here in forever...
I am a percussionist, I have been one since the 6th grade. I got into the tracking scene a few years ago. I learned how to do it on a homebrew app for the Nintendo DS, called Nitrotracker. I eventually transferred to Modplug tracker on my computer. I mainly make beats so that my friend and I can freestyle to them, and I also make retarded remixes of songs just for our own enjoyment. My entire library of samples is made up of samples I picked up from other .mod or .xm files. I also have numerous drum machine samples (TR-808, TR-707, SP-12, etc.) since I am a fan of old school hip hop and a percussionist.
Don't laugh, but I did make a hip hop/chiptune remix of the Power Rangers theme song. It's all samples I picked up off of other tracker files and I used TR-808 samples for the percussion. Here is a link below.

I wish lol, those things are antiques now and are actually quite valuable. I have the next best thing, which are computerized samples which is just what I need since I use tracking programs.

Thanks, I wrestle with the mix quality but it's something I focused on. I was running it through various instances of Ozone 4, etc. When it's all in there it's enough to crush a 2.6 quad core.

Just finished listening to your second track Kier, I loved them. Both of really crisp and professional trance, lots of energy :thumb:.
I've always wanted to experiment with electronic music but I didn't know where to start without trying expensive software. Tried out Mixcraft a few months ago. It was fun as I started to get the hang of it, but it felt restricting and the only sound samples I could seem to find to use were quite low quality, so it all trailed off unfortunately.
On the subject of DX-y music, check out Mr K's iComps (http://www.icompositions.com/artists/Mr_K) page, some great tracks there.

Owch, there's me thinking my 2.8 quad would be unstoppable. Then again, it heavily depends on how efficiently your DAW can do multi-threading.
I haven't even touched mastering. I understand how vital it is to make professional music -there's just something crazy about applying EQ to an entire mix with a dozen EQ'd tracks already on it. I guess I'd be worried about undoing all my hard work, but that's no doubt a whole skill of its own.
As for 'music tech geeks' I actually should be all set to study music technology at university this year. The course concerns the electronics/programming-orientated side of the subject rather than the production side, though, so you could definitely count me as one!

Thanks! The bottom track (Second Sight) has vocal samples from Troels Folmann's (the composer of the soundtracks behind Crystal's Tomb Raiders). He runs Tonehammer (http://www.tonehammer.com/)
I started messing around with music composition many years ago, and learnt via the onboard sequencer on the Korg M-1 and then my trusty Atari STF 1040 and Cubase v2 :D Then when I moved to PC I got Cubase SE which is a light version and not too expensive at all.
I've heard Mr. K's stuff before, it's very cool.

Well I'm an effects whore. Each track is layered in various effects so I think that's what canes my processor.
You're wise not to dive into mastering blindly. Ozone is notorious for making bad tracks even worse in the wrong hands. I'm a novice but I have found that there are some basic and subtle settings which can help pull a track together and add the top end. Mixing certainly is a science.
Your course sounds cool. Good luck with it

hey! i spent years as an engineer for commercials and albums. have a small studio at home...
as i've posted before... my current band PUSH:
Push III (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ig6E--84ug&feature=related)
Red Giants (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scdEr0hejLM)
as well there is:
My previous band THE JOHNS (http://www.myspace.com/yesiamthatbad)
then there is my cover project where i cover POLICE songs in slower more rooty fashion:
The Fauxlice (http://www.myspace.com/thefauxlice)
at home i'm using ProTools and some basic plugs, some old synths that are old enough to not sound like everyone else but not old enough to sound "vintage" (Yamaha A4000 sampler/Proteus2k). I have a few mics, guitars etc...
most of this music is a hybrid of professional studios and my home studio... however all of it is recorded and produced by me. I've got a degree in composing and music technology and am a freelance engineer... though i'm not a gearhead... i just use what i have and make it sound as good as i can.
Alright I'll jump onboard.
I am a bass player who eventually started doing everything else, and now I make electronic rock or whatever kind of music under the name ShopofOlives.
I have a home studio which I use mostly for myself, but also record local bands. I'm by no means a professional, but I am pretty obsessed with the art of recording and even some of the science of it.
I use Logic and Native Instruments Battery 3.0 for drums.
Recently I've been having fun building microphone preamp kits from classicapi.com and five fish studios.
This song is a few years old, but it's one of my favorites for how all the sounds accidentally came together.

Hey man... I really like the sound of PUSH. What do you play in the band and have you got studio stuff online?
I had a Proteus 2000 rack, but I never got in with it too well. I've had some hardware that I really liked down the years though like a Korg M1 and a Kawai K4 (which I really loved, so unique sounding).

yeah, the Proteus 2K is nothing special... i try to avoid using most of th patches in ways that they're not intended for... aside from the EP sounds... i spose.
I had a Kawai K11 keyboard... it was a actually quite a powerful thing for what it was... i got a ton of ultra unique stuff out of it.
i was listening to your tracks and notices this effect you use a few times... i used to use COOLEDIT and it had this convolution effect that did that same type of sound... kinda like a swirling lazer sound only much more organic.... anyway... well done!

I'm pianist and a guitarist.
But I haven't touched a guitar in years since my little brothers broke my acoustic when they were babies and I couldn't afford to replace it.

I miss it. Luckily I'm getting an electric guitar as a late birthday present.
I'd also like to try out bass, cello, and violin.
I play around a lot on my piano but I haven't recorded anything...
These days all I play are Zelda tunes and covers from songs I listen to.

As an old stick in the mud, I like music you can hum along with or sing. I have nothing against mixes or electronic/synthesized music and have some friends who do excellent work in that field.
But, just to stir the pot, here is a little antiwar tune I popped out a few months ago:
