I've always hated the Penguin, but Burton's version is awesome. I hope that's how he'll be in BAA2.

I dislike Penguin as well. Reasoning: I think that penguin needs to be used better in the comics. There isn't that many stories that have used him (off the top of my head I can only think of Long Halloween, Dark Victory and Life After Death) and when he is used he doesn't seem to be much of a threat; Batman always dispatches him pretty easily. In order for him to work he needs to pose some threat. Since he's kind of like a mob boss, he should actualy have some under-world power. And since Blackmask 2 aka Jerimiah Arkham was put in Arkham that leaves an opening that penguin could fill, and finally become more than a joke to be  at.

Conviently I had a nose bleed before logging back on to the fourms, which I blame YOU for now! :mad2:

Penguin appears here and there in Paul Dini's detective comics run and Streets of Gotham. It's not a huge prominent role with big stakes, but the development is pretty cool. Dini decided that Penguin trying to do crime after all these years was pointless, so Penguin decides to promote himself. He sells icebourge lounge as "the penguins home turf" and because of his big criminal name, the place becomes the hottest spot in Gotham. Penguin went all legal and just scammed people in the essence, that the penguin t-shirts and other items we're just bloody expensive. :D
Now i absolutely LOVE the 60s Penguin. He had the laugh, he had the PENGUIN SUBMARINA, OH YEAH!!! He was just so evil and HE loved to be evil! He laughed at Batman with his kwaak kwaak and always had the hottest chicks at his guards. The guy was a badass! Brave and Bold got a really cool voice actor (can't recall his name right now) for Penguin aswell. This really high class snob voice, i love it.
Brian Azzarello's Broken City had Penguin as this really really dirty lowscum mobster, who was all hungry for information and whatnot. He was quite obsessed with knowledge, power and whatnot. Then theres also Judd Winnick's Scarecrow story where Penguin was essantually a Kingpin (Marvel character) wannabe.

Well, I haven't read those stories so... he's in Batman books (a bit) more than I had thought. Did he appear in "Heart of Hush" at all? The only Dini Detective Comics I have read involve "The Ressurection of Ra's Al Ghul" and I was thinking about getting HOH, so if Penguin is in it then that's an added bonus.

But he played a big part in Batman: Dark Victory, it's kinda a sequel to Batman: The Long Halloween.

For those who haven't read it, I think Penguin's role in 'No Man's Land' is pretty cool.
He's not in Heart of Hush, though. (Or, if he was, it wasn't a big part because I don't remember it.) It's a good Batman/Catwoman story, though.

No.Mad Hatter would mid control Penguin to do his bidding. Then He would blow his head off with his cane/revolver. Then he would take the Penguin's hat.

I loved Pengie in B:TAS and The New Adventures. That sophisticated and smart thing worked for him. One of my favorite moments in B:TAS was in Almost Got 'Im when they were telling their stories and Penguin says, "I find your middling machinations mildly diverting.." I was never a fan of the more "Danny DeVito" look, tho.

my favorite Penguin quote came from the episode "Birds of a Feather" when Batman thought Penguin was up to no good in an alley when he was really defending himself & his date from some thugs, & Batman says to Penguin's date, "He wasn't with them?", & Penguin says, "That's right, you vulgar vigilante! In my day I associated with a much higher class of riff-raff!"
That's what was weak about Burton's Penguin too - he had no class.

I actually quite like the character he's become.
When he first started out, he was a little bit ridiculous but over the years he's evolved into a really slimy but significant part of the gotham criminal underworld. And I think most writers play him in that role brilliantly.
Just about all of the best Gotham crime storylines usually feature Penguin as some kind of foil or player to the plot - War Games, City of Crime, Broken City, Face the Face.
Really looking fwd to seeing how he's portrayed in the new game.
