Hello all,

Can anyone offer any tips for controlling character while free falling during base jump challenges? I've tried both with keyboard / mouse and 360 controller, but I'm having problems getting my dude to fall straight.

I would prefer to use keyboard / mouse because that's what I'm used to for everything else in this game, and controller is relatively new (bought it for racing games a couple weeks ago), so I'm still not completely comfortable with it in general. (although I do like it for flying airplanes)

Specifically, I'm having problems getting my dude to free fall straight. On Twin Dive I can't get him to look (go) down enough to go straight through the first ring and for whatever reason I frequently end up doing circles in the air. Even when I get him going straight he's going more forward than down, and it makes me miss the ring.

From the videos I've seen either I'm doing something really wrong or the console versions of this game have a lot tighter controls. Considering it's probably the first, can anyone offer any advice?

Although game seems like a lot of fun, the base jump challenges (and to lesser extent, the airplane ones) make me feel like :mad2::mad2:

I use my PS3 controller (not that it matters). Steering with the left joystick in a freefall is a pain in the ass and gets you flipped over, but you have more freedom/control with the right joystick. Try that or both.

I haven't really been able to find any videos for pc version. Most seem to be PS3 (which makes since due to youtube ez mode). Again maybe I'm just doing it wrong but videos like below make me believe free fall controls on consoles may have tighter controls. One I get through the first couple "fall" hoops, the ones you parachute too feel much easier.

Notice in the video he goes straight down. I am unable to get Rico to dive at such an angle. I think sensitivity problems (flying crazy) may be related to my mouse DPI. (which is at 2000). I'll try turning it down and see if that changes anything.

Here is previously mentioned video. Every other video I could find of any base jumping looked about the same.

This would honestly be my favorite of all the race challenges if I could get the controls down. For whatever reason it reminds me of old school pilot wings :) Oh and farming money would be cool too :D

I don't touch the mouse when skydiving. I've gotten a lot better, but it's taken 22 hours of gameplay lol. Just hold W (or your "forward" key) and Rico should go head-first. To get him to shoot outwards, get him going in a nose dive for a second then start tapping W to get him to be halfway between "level" and "nose dive".

I've found that using the mouse cause him to do some really funky things that seem more like barrel rolls instead of actual turning.

Good luck :D

This, take you hand off the mouse when skydiving, and just use WASD to control rico...

Sorry to dust off this old thread, but I had to comment after struggling a bit myself. I came here to see if there was a trick to beating Twin Dive after the same problem others mentioned on PC of Rico not diving straight down. I tried no mouse touch and even equipped the rocket launcher in case that made him dive different.

What seemed to work best for me was VERY counter intuitive to what I was thinking. I noticed if I let Rico just free fall without hitting W for a bit, he not only hits the first ring better, he also dives more straight down once you do hit W.

After that it was a piece of cake. First time I successfully completed it I got a 21:45. Here's a video I made that came in at 21:82 even after slightly brushing one of the sky scrapers.

Nice that you can embed YouTube clips here, but for some reason it won't embed in HD when I use the HD link, so click on 720p in the viewer if you want to view it in HD.

For those whom need more than advice on the standard jump-off-the-building launch method for this challenge, I found this alternative launch method to yield great trajectory for the 2nd checkpoint every time:
