This just in, Gamasutra feature about the game. (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/4325/past_and_future_tension_the_.php)
Now let me read it.
Okay, read:
It's mostly much of the same, talks about transhumanism, renaissance theme, how they went from funky clothing to cyberpunk sensibility etc.
There's some novel discussion on how the aesthetic will segue into the original Deus Ex: i.e. people couldn't afford augmentations anymore, lost their jobs, economies collapsed, the SoCal quake etc. etc. led to the dystopian world you see in Deus Ex.
Oh, and they confirmed that health regeneration has been dropped.

Cheers for the link. The interview kind of makes me grind my teeth though, because it's like listening to two teenagers from the OC talk. The number of times they say "like," "you know", "kind of" and "right?" in that interview is unbelievable!
But I mean, that's kind of like, just my opinion, you know?

I'm right there with you. If I hadn't seen the video interview from the GDC I'd have pictured him as a California surfer type with the bleached hair and a doobie in his hand.

This is the primary reason why I never watch those youtube interviews that are becoming more and more popular. That and the fact that it takes them 30 minutes to say something that I could have read in 5 minutes. The only reason people do these interviews is because it is easier for them than transcribing it all.

I am sad to discover that I no longer even believe in the possibility of health regen being dropped. :(

They either removed it months ago or it's there to stay.

I have a little question: Who is "Cody and his gang"? :)

To me the worst is those third person bits linked with our moves :hmm:

Now you mention it, I don't recall them confirming or denying anything about health regen for quite a while. And the trailer even hints at locational damage.

Cody... the guy who handled the material for the trailer along with Goldtooth, as I read it.
I stand to be corrected, but got the impression from the way he expressed the themes and ideas they are playing with that they have been a little loosely asserted in development. It's almost like the setting is a bit too conveniently flexible to fit around the new and potentially inconsistent ideas. Hopefully that's just because he's trying to get around describing these things without revealing too much.
(about the trailer) All of our themes are in there. All of our motifs are in there. A lot of important stuff from the story is there -- very quickly and sometimes just suggested, but there's a lot of stuff to be digested in the teaser..
It's an extremely detailed minute and a half, but I didn't expect to hear that all of the themes and "motifs" in the game are in the CGI trailer. I guess there's still a heck of a lot of stuff to pick up on in there.

We're right before that. The phrase that we use in the game is, "It's not the end of the world yet, but you can see it from here." It's almost as if it's the end of that golden era.
Anyone kinda annoyed that he's just paraphrasing the Deus Ex bible?
Still, this is not just Another Grim Dystopic Post-Apocalyptic World TM. Deus Ex is set "10 minutes before the apocalypse." There is still hope.
I do kinda like how they're trying to keep it relevant to the timeline, mentioning the earthquakes for example, but the guy still totally sidestepped the issue of DX3 looking more futuristic than the first game. The fact that he had to list different ways you could justify it really shows that they didn't really care about justifying it in the first place.

This game has never made any sense, most of the stuff exists "just because." A programmer, artist, greenlight studio head or whoever liked it and the "feature" stuck. Mark my words, in the end it will be an incoherent mass of half-assed "revolutionary" ideas and none of it will have any connection to a game called.. what was it.. ? Deus Ex?

Considering the community I'm afraid that DX3 doesn't have a lot of themes and motives rather than the us not picking it up.
