When you said you reinstalled the game in different locations, could you describe how you did this?

Please also upload your dxdiag and msinfo files somewhere so we can take a look in to this further.

sumone said that installing game in program files can sumtimes keeps a game from administrative rights or sumthin... so i uninstalled & reinstalled game in other location... i knew we can do that by right click run as administrator but i was willing to do anythin even if it sounds stupid.. hoping that sumthin will work.. but i'm ran out of options now...

here's my dxdiag & msinfo

i've found a way that should hopefully solve the problem
if you go on http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk
and download the latest drivers it should fix the problem :)

i got the problem again, it seems that whenever my pc turns off and back on something happens as just cause 2 is now not running but it did yesterday after installing the nvidia driver for the second time

having just read around the forums i think its a windows 7 issue as everyone who says their specs have windows 7 and its these people (me included) that are having the problems. Eidos need to come up with a patch and fast otherwise people will get extremely frustrated as their new game doesn't work even though their computers are more than up to handling it.

This problem is common. Ishu, Venn, keep your goddamn panties on before I shove 'em down your throat. You're not the only ones suffering. I have the black screen problem, but it only really happens when going through Panau City. I'm patiently waiting for a patch.

In the meantime, go play another excellent game, like Just Cause, Manhunt 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, Half-Life 2, etc.

Have you tried disabling themes for the justcause2.exe?
You could also try disabling desktop composition for it too.

Both options are under the compatibility tab when you right click on the file/shortcut and go to properties.

good luck.

P.S. In regards to the 9500,Its really not capable of running this game well, if at all.

grrr when i thought it was all fixed, after removing all my graphics card drivers and installing them which let it work, it has now decided to just go to a black screen on the start up.
And Helegad, get your facts straight before you threaten people as we can't even run the game so think yourself lucky that you can at least run it !!

The full screen black screen problem started after i installed the latest update from nvidea
i have an asus EN8600GT Magic 512Mb.. after i installed one older version over it Geforce_8500GT 175.16
I solved the problem with the full screen crash...
I think the problem is one of the new driver's from nvidea..
i don't know if it's nvidea's fault.. But i finaly can play the game;))

SaViDgE1978 - turn your pc off and back on and see if it still works as when i do that my graphics card (9600GT 512MB) seems to forget i changed the drivers so then it doesn't work so i end up changing them every time i got to play the game

Kernelbase.dll is nothing to do with JustCause2. it is actually a system library on your machine, so not something we control. It affects other games, so not just us.

try this , made it work for me ; apply windowed mode. See below how:

To add these tweaks to Just Cause 2, simply:

1. Right click on "Just Cause 2" in your Steam games list.
2. Click properties at the bottom of the new context menu
3. Click the "Set Launch Options" button
4. Enter in whichever commandline options you want. If you are using multiple entries then they must be separated by a single space.

The full list of commandline parameters currently available in Just Cause 2 (retail and demo) are as follows:

Quote:
/failsafe Run in failsafe mode (ignore settings)
/fullscreen Fullscreen mode
/windowed Windowed mode
/width=n Width in pixels (fullscreen/windowed)
/height=n Height in pixels (fullscreen/windowed)
/widthFS=n Width in pixels (fullscreen)
/heightFS=n Height in pixels (fullscreen)
/widthW=n Width in pixels (windowed)
/heightW=n Height in pixels (windowed)
/refreshrate=n
/msaa=n MSAA sample count
/vsync=b Enable/disable V-sync
/aniso=n Anisotropic filter (0-7, default: 7)
/shadows=n Shadow quality (0-2, default: 1)
/shadowres=n Shadow resolution (0-1, default: 0)
/ssao=b Enable/disable SSAO (default: disabled)
/hbao=b Enable/disable HBAO method for SSAO (default: enabled)
/plspec=b Enable/disable pointlight specular (default: disabled)
/posteffects=b Enable/disable posteffects (default: enabled)
/lodfactor=n Geometric detail (0-3, default: 0)
/decals=b Enable/disable decals
/edgefade=b Enable/disable edge fade effect
/filmgrain=b Enable/disable film grain effect
/fovfactor=, typical values 1.0 - 2.0 Changes the field of view, default is 1.0
/dxbuffers=, default: 1
/frameratecap=, default: disabled Allows you to cap your framerate at what every value you want.
/dxadapter= Allows those with multiple GPUs to force JC2 to use a specific device.

b=boolean, (0 or 1)
n = number (integer)

For instance if I wanted to force the maximum FOV, cap the framerate at 30fps and disable film grain I would enter "/fovfactor=2 /frameratecap=30 /filmgrain=0" (without the quotation marks) under "set launch options"

These tweaks all work in the demo so you can try them out before even installing the full game. I highly recommend trying out the alternate AO implementation as it comes with a lower performance hit, just enter /hbao=0 /ssao=1 to enable it.

Same error for me... I used to be fine though... was up to 60 hours of gametime without a single issue and then upgraded from a Core2 duo to an i7 930 ... new Mobo and RAM but the same GTX480 video card (and driver) and now it crashes randomly.. sometimes it takes 30 seconds...sometimes 30 minutes. This was my favourite game prior to the upgrade and now its just too frustrating to play

I have tried:

1. Renaming the JKSettings file
2. Latest BIOS update
3. Remove/reinstall video card drivers
4. Install the beastly 567mb DirectX SDK
5. Monitored CPU and GPU temps - both normal

Im considering deleting the local content and downloading the game in steam again but that seems like a huge waste of my monthly bandwidth if its not going to make a difference..

Come on Eidos - throw me a bone... what else can I try?

<<<UPDATE>>

Problem has been fixed - Im not too sure exactly what fixed the issue as I tried a number of things at once but here are the steps I took to resolve my crashing issue

1. Deleted the local client files in Steam and downloaded/installed again (potentially had corrupt files after installing the game from a steam backup after my hardware upgrade?)
2. Turned off Vertical Sync (probably not the problem as I used to have this on before my upgrade)
3. Slowed down the timings for my RAM in the bios - well... set them from what they are supposed to be to "Auto" - I think this was probably the culprit

Not only am I running stable again but I am now able to turn on all the bells and whistles to full - it just looks freakin'amazing - my favourite game again.

My apologies to Eidos for pointing fingers when it turns out it was my fault. Lets kiss and make up and if you throw Joystick/Rudder support into the game I'll have your babies....Sweet little grappling hook babies...Mmmmmm

I took have this problem, technical support are utterly clueless as to how to fix it, its a serious fault with the game that there is no known fix for at the moment.

I have this problem too, only mine craashes right away it doesn't hang on the black screen. I've owned the game for a month now and still haven't played it. I upgraded my video card to fix it, but that wasn't it and it cant be nvidias fault because my old card was a geforce 8500 gt, and my new card is a radeon HD 4670 and its the same problem. it cant be windows 7's fault either because i have vista and have the problem too. REALLY looking forward to when someone can solve this one

Has this been sorted?

I got the Free game voucher with a GTX470 - downloaded (via steam) and installed - just to find a nice black screen and no game.

Any help would be appreciated

As far as I can gather the black screen at launch issue hasn't been fixed, and seems to be system specific. Basic trouble shooting helps alot.

Underclock everything to stock speeds.
do basic windows fault finding (enabling all services, disk checking etc)
re-installing applications (steam, drivers, direct X, game)

Would like to be able to help but never had the problem with no launch so am struggling to be of some use to you.
