View Full Version : Day/Night cycle skewed?

I've been noticing this not only in the demo, but in the timelapse vids of the full game: Night is much, much shorter than day, and it really bugs me. First off it doesn't make any sense, sure you can pull the "it's not realistic" card, but making the earth speed up at night to make the day almost twice as long transcends unrealism. It also bugs me because I really like the way night looks. All the bright effects like explosions and muzzleflashes look so much cooler in the nighttime. I hope that they have done something about this, but since I saw it in a video of the final build I doubt they changed it. :(

It's faster in game. Idk where MCM said it but I'm pretty sure he did. I think podcast 5

If you listen to podcast 5 the guy says that during the actual game the day and night cycle slows down.

It'd be neat if it had a realtime day/night cycle based off a location in southeast Asia's current time.

I don't like the night cycle in any game very much, so I'm glad it's short.

I remember it was said somewhere that the day night cycle will be a hour to day and a hour to night, i cant think exacly where though, but he said in the recent podcast that the daytime is extended and the night is shortend in the demo

An hour of night would be pretty sweet.
Hell I'd settle for all night

agree...I enjoy the nightime contrast a lot. an hour/hour, night/day would work great. its very short in the demo, particularly night...and it just looks amazing...totally inmerssive.

I swear I already replied in this thread...

Anyway, it seems like a shorter night is more realistic considering January is summer in Panau, and as you know summer nights are shorter than winter nights.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Glad to know that it's only in the demo (hopefully)

mycoldman has already stated that the demo & the full game are different in the times of day/night.

The day/night cycle in the demo is not the same as the one in the final game - due to the 30 minute timer.

me too I'd love nothing but nighttime and a stealth suit armed with a silenced rocket launcher:cool:

I hope there are some codes for night/day options

In GTAIV all I did was set it to nighttime and stormy weather

I love rain and nighttime

like avatar the game which looked insane at night like a trippy dream , but daytime was lame

I had to let the game idle for 1-2 hours just to get nighttime in all maps on that game, but its worth it , it was like a trippy neon blacklight dream

I don't care if night is shorter. Most of people don't like night in games, so I'm pretty sure there is a reason for this, if the night is shorter in the full as well.

Since when?

I personally love night in games. The contrast gives the devs opportunities to show of some of the cooler graphical details like lighting effects and such.

What on earth are you talking about. Night is always extremely popular, it's just harder to code with all the extra light sources and shadows and stuff.

I don't know a single person in real life that doesn't prefer night gameplay over day, everything just looks cooler.

i think someone said that the day is 40 minutes and the night 20mins so that makes a cycle of 1 hour right?

I HATED nightime in GTASA specialy when getting lost in the forest, it looked like RE and if i got to a road, no vehicles would come, and always felt behind was (Finally, Fake) Leatherface, but now in JC2, the places look like a nighttime instead than a Silent Hill with no puzzles, and i love doing the Faction Mision with a Grenade Laucher, the lights are so pretty

Just figure i'd tell you guys, since i'm suprised n one has noticed, if you do the faction mission it rewinds to the proper time of day the mission cutscene is in, go ahead, do the mission at night and you will see what i mean.

That is why the day seems longer because you do the faction mission which reqinds the cycle
