Im pretty, pretty sure it will be unlocked from beginning.

In JC1, there were no barriers, so there wont be any in JC2...

Maybe not, but I have the feeling that the first story missions will take place in the southeast of the desert island, and you expand from there, but im pretty sure the whole island will be unlocked so you can travel around and explore.http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6049/jc2ma.jpg

You need to complete the first mission, then you can explore the entire island:D:D
