Is it supposed to be impossible? I reduce my speed way down, find a nice flat space to land, come in nice and low...but as soon as the wheels hit the ground BOOM! the whole plane explodes! How come we can't land the planes?!

Maybe it's to encourage the parachute. I never even tried to land a plane in the first one.

You're doing it wrong. :p I've had no problems landing them. Keep the nose up a bit and the throttle down the whole time.

I gotta compliment them on it if anything because when you do properly land, you hear the tires hit and the rubber screech just like you would hear with a real plane touching down.

Keep tryin, you'll get it. :)

No you can definately land planes I was watching a video of a guy landing a plane in the demo (sorry don't have a link) he landed on flat land in the desert the wheels hit the ground then came off then back until eventually it slowed Down

Yep, as Techguy said, just face the nose up and hold down the trigger that reduces speed.

You want to land not by directly facing the ground, but by kinda facing the front up as you come down.

Also, if you think this is hard, imagine trying to land the commercial jet in the full game :p

lol alright I guess I just have to really aim the nose up more than I thought..looked good to me though! I'll try again :nut:

Thats kind of weird that they make you land like that, I can understand it with a jet, but a prop plane landing like that is just odd

You can, i have :) several times :), and just keep the plane steady, the nose up, and reduce speed alittle :)
not to the point where itll stall,

oh man, thats gonna be fun :) i hope you can toggle off and on the landing gear :(

What, with the nose up? Surely thats even more important in a prop plane than in a jet, mainly because you need to get the propeller out of the way of the ground as you land.

Can you use the rudder?

Nah I think it was in a podcast. The landing gear retracts depending on your speed.

pointing your nose up as you land is called a FLARE, and a FLARE is required in all planes during landing.

once your past the threshold point, power to idle and start to flare.

flares decrease your vertical descent rate and so reduce damage to the air craft more so than having to worry about hitting the props of a plane.

it's easy for me.
but one time it just exploded. sooo stupid it should even take fire for a few seconds and then explode so that you have a chance to escape.

what kinda annoys me is that while ur in the plane on the ground u cant go back wards :hmm: i landed a couple times and i would be facing a cliff but i couldn't back up and turn a little bit to get on the street

lol! reversing is ez. *Drumroll*

DUAL HOOK!

dual hook the back of the plane to a truck or car and pull it ;)

I was just saying prop planes have to be slightly nose up but no so much as to set the rear tail support down first, as that are not designed to take that kind of stress. They should only be slightly nose up so as to just set the front gears down first, due to the majority of a prop plane's weight being centered over to front landing struts and in the mid rear of the plane.

When a prop plane lands, gravity naturally pulls the rear down, prop planes that set down on the rear supper usually try to snap the tail off the plane.

I think landing is too easy, there's no challenge to it what so ever. But it sort of goes with the overall arcade style of the game.

hehe my computer cant handle FSX, i have fs9.. although other than the graphics i dont think there is much of a difference.

im worried about the passenger jet too! ... i hope its not so skittish, exploding the slightest knock...

I've found the best way to land the plane is to slow it down by holding L2 and aiming one of the wings for a lampost or tree.. it spins around but lands fine...

somehow hitting something is safer than a controlled (all-be-it VERY slightly fast descent rate) landing

I agree. Basically all you do is slow down and aim for the ground..

I would like it to be more realistic and challenging.
