Mad Hatter has always been a pedophile and has been interpreted as one in almost every incarnation sans the Animated Series.

It's more of a subtle implication.

The Hatter takes a headless doll and caresses it lovingly, saying:

"They're all mad, you see (children). But in each of them is an implicate adult. Order out of chaos. Or is it the other way around? To know them is to know myself. Little girls, especially. Little blonde girls. Little shameless *****es!"

He then starts crying as he presses the doll to his cheek.

Not to shamelessly promote myself, but I actually made a montage tribute to the Mad Hatter on YouTube. It has the Oingo Boingo song "Little Girls" and deals with his pedophile nature.

Nonetheless, I liked the BTAS version more: I prefer him as a stalker.

Yep, that's pretty much why he was made into a pedo- to correlate the allegations of Lewis Carroll being into children.
